It is almost the year 2010 and lots of things are happening in the my world as well as the tech world.
Next year is a big year for me academically. I move back to Boston for my last year at Wentworth Institute of Technology and will be graduating in 2010. That means I have to go into overdrive to keep on top of my studies and get ready for the real world.
Thankfully my internship has helped me make this transition. Since 2007 I have been developing C# applications for hedge funds and more recently I have been helping my company customize a SharePoint portal for a client. This new project is exposing me to the business side of software consulting-this means lots of meetings, notes, JAD sessions (Joint Application Design) and R&D with SharePoint. I find I’m learning more than I ever could stuck in a classroom.
Also, next year is a big year for Microsoft developers. Office 2010, Visual Studio 2010, and .NET 4.0 are going to be released in next year which means more features (and problems).
I’m very excited for SharePoint 2010 and .NET 4.0 especially. There is a new SharePoint interface (yes, another new interface to learn and cause headaches) but there are plenty of under the cover features coming. .NET 4.0 will bring more features such as PLINQ (Parallel LINQ) and better support for multi core systems.
Over the next few months I will be using the new Office 2010 suite beta’s and Visual Studio 2010 beta. I’m hoping to learn as much as I can for these new products as they will hopefully resolve issues in past releases. So far the products look great. They have a ribbon much like 2007, yet the layout of the window (or workspace) is bigger an better designed. More to come on that!
This blog is new, fresh, and I will be determined to keep it filled with plenty of content (and attempt to reduce spelling errors…hehe). My 4 hour daily commute will not go wasted!
